Why You’re Here

If you’ve found yourself on this site then you’ve probably received some less-than-stellar news from your doctor, either recently or a while ago. But either way, you’ve ended up here because you’re looking for some tips or tricks or answers to your questions to help you through your diagnosis.

Perhaps you were told that you have a debilitating disease or incurable illness, or perhaps you’ve learned that someone you love has received this type of news.

Perhaps you’re young, maybe in your late 20s or early 30s, or perhaps you find yourself taking care of someone who is.

Perhaps you’re married, with or without children, or single, and with or without children.

Perhaps you have questions like, “How will this news affect my life? How will it affect my family, my friends, my overall social life?” or, “How do I explain this news to my family, my friends, my co-workers–How do I tell my boss?”

And now that you’re thinking about it, maybe you’re fearfully contemplating, “Will I lose my job? Will I even be able to keep working? Does this mean that I’ll have to change my career or stop working altogether?”

Or maybe your question is just simply, “What do I do now?”

Why We’re Here

Many of your questions and feelings, many of your headaches and heartaches are common to all who travel along this road. And, Lord willing, those questions will be sufficiently answered here; your feelings might be thoroughly empathized with. No matter what stage of life you’re in, you’ve come to a place where you can feel free to discuss your illnesses, your treatments, your thoughts, struggles, and successes.

Chronic illness can be a scary affair to talk about; talking about our fears makes us face them and, ultimately, admit our physical weaknesses. We already struggle with feeling “less-than” and (at least, in my case) unworthy. But this is a place where you don’t have to face it alone.

The reality is that chronic illness can leave you confused: “Which medication do I take? Do I even take medication or just ‘tough-it-out’?” “There’s so much technical medical jargon that I can’t make heads or tails out of it! Why do they cost so much? Apparently, I paid for a rocket ship and flew to the moon and back, but I don’t remember the trip? Is that what the MRI machine really is?” “What’s holistic medicine and is it just a bunch o’ mumbo-jumbo?”

The number of questions can be overwhelming, which can produce maddening confusion. Confusion can produce frustration, and frustration can produce anger, and if you’re walking the trail alone, it can create loneliness and a general feeling of isolation from the outside world, which then leaves you depressed.

And yet, it feels like that outside world is looking in on you, judging you, like a child inspecting a half-squished bug through a magnifying glass, saying, “Ew”. Now, this may be how a very small portion of the world may look at you, but let me encourage you by saying that the vast majority of the world doesn’t see you this way.

This is why the authors of this site endeavor to serve you with helpful and hopeful articles to guide you through this time. Your disease may not have a cure (yet) but we’ve created this site to provide you with practical advice to make it through the day.

However, our goal isn’t just to help you make it through the day, but through eternity. Each time an article is written or medical insight shared, it’s with the intention of providing a Christ-centered, Biblical understanding of it and your life in the perspective of eternity.

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.

Matthew 16:24-27 (ESV)

Who We Are

We are Cameron and Jenny Day. We’ve been married for 7 years and have been blessed with two amazing young boys. We’ve also had the distinct pleasure of traveling and having lived overseas as teachers in South Korea. Cameron taught ELA in Korea and K4-6th grade Art in Dallas, TX (though he’s on a break, at the moment, and working as a security guard) and Jenny is an elementary music teacher and accomplished musician. She’s also a fantastic mother to our two boys.

But what makes us different than most young married couples is that Cameron suffers from Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis, while Jenny suffers alongside him.

If you’re in this same sort of stage of life as we are, we’d love to help you shoulder your burden by sharing our advice, thoughts, and experiences with you, all from a Biblical foundation. In shouldering this burden, we hope to encourage and embolden you through your coming trials–trials that you’re sure to face.

Whether you’re single or married, with or without children, this is a site for discussion, sharing advice, and sharing research. Through loving, respectful, and gentle conversation, we hope to find solidarity with one another.

In thought-provoking articles, we will share Biblical advice and encouragement in articles for those struggling with illness. You’ll receive perspective from both a first and third-person view.

Won’t you please join us on this journey?

Being sensible that I am unable to do any thing without God’s help, I do humbly entreat Him, by His grace, to enable me to keep these Resolutions, so far as they are agreeable to His will, for Christ’s sake.
